This prestigious scholarship is available to talented international students who wish to pursue a master's degree at one of Europe’s oldest and most renowned universities, KU Leuven, in Belgium.

Scholarship Overview

The Science@Leuven Scholarships are designed for highly motivated international students interested in studying at the Faculty of Science at KU Leuven. This scholarship covers various master's programs and supports students in their academic journey by providing financial assistance.

Master's Programs Offered

The scholarship applies to the following master’s programs offered at the Faculty of Science:

  • Master of Physics
  • Master of Chemistry
  • Master of Geography
  • Master of Statistics
  • Interuniversity Master of Geology

These programs are designed to provide a solid foundation in scientific knowledge and research, preparing graduates for a range of career opportunities in the scientific community.

Scholarship Coverage

The Science@Leuven Scholarship provides the following financial support:

  • Tuition Fees for one year
  • Health Insurance coverage
  • Living Expenses up to 12,000 Euros for one year (the exact amount will be determined by the Science@Leuven Fund Board)

While a full scholarship of 12,000 Euros is offered, students are encouraged to bring additional funds to cover any extra living expenses. Moreover, the scholarship is available for the second year of the master's program, but this will be contingent on the student’s academic performance during the first year.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Science@Leuven Scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Language Proficiency: English (TOEFL minimum score of 94 or IELTS minimum score of 7).
  • Academic Background: Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university that qualifies them for the master’s program they are applying for. They should not have a master’s degree or Ph.D.
  • Academic Excellence: A strong academic record is essential, with evidence of excellent study results.
  • Motivation: Applicants must show strong motivation to pursue a master's program at the Faculty of Science at KU Leuven.
  • No Prior Enrollment at KU Leuven: Applicants should not have studied or worked at KU Leuven before.
  • Ambassadorship: Scholarship recipients should be willing to act as ambassadors for the program.

Application Process

To apply for the Science@Leuven Scholarship, follow these steps:

  1. Apply for a Master’s Program: Begin by applying for the master’s program of your choice through the KU Leuven application portal. Make sure to read the instructions carefully.

  2. Submit Required Documents:

    • A complete list of courses you have taken with credits and grades.
    • A description (1/2 to 1 page) of the most relevant courses for the program you’re applying for.
    • Two reference letters from internationally renowned professors.
    • A motivational letter explaining why you wish to study at KU Leuven and why you are a good fit for the program.

  3. Confirmation Message: After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation message. Take a screenshot of this message, as you will need it when registering for the scholarship.

  4. Apply for the Scholarship: Use the link provided on the KU Leuven website to apply for the Science@Leuven Scholarship.

  5. Final Registration: After submitting your scholarship application, you will receive an email confirming that you have been successfully registered for the scholarship.

Important Notes

  • Eligibility: Only students who meet all the requirements will be considered for the scholarship.
  • Application Timing: You do not need to wait until you are accepted into the master’s program to apply for the scholarship. However, your scholarship application will not be considered if you are not accepted into the program.

Deadline

  • The deadline for submitting applications for the Science@Leuven Scholarship is February 15, 2025.
