Are you passionate about climate change and environmental justice? Do you have a strong interest in journalism and storytelling? Grist, a nonprofit media organization that champions climate solutions and sustainability, is looking for a Climate News Fellow to join its Editorial team for a year-long, full-time fellowship.

Fellowship Overview

The Climate News Fellow position offers a unique chance to contribute to impactful climate journalism. This is an opportunity to report on the latest climate developments, from groundbreaking policies to innovative solutions addressing the climate crisis.

  • Duration: May 5, 2025 – April 30, 2026
  • Location: Remote, with potential opportunities to work from Grist’s Seattle or New York offices
  • Compensation: $58,750/year

Responsibilities

As a Climate News Fellow, you’ll play a key role in Grist’s editorial initiatives. Your duties will include:

  • Pitching and writing stories on climate science, policy, and politics
  • Publishing 2–3 stories weekly, including quick takes and feature articles
  • Contributing to newsletters and collaborating on team projects
  • Assisting with production tasks like research, fact-checking, and copy-editing

Qualifications

This fellowship is ideal for early-career journalists who are passionate about climate issues. Applicants should possess:

  • A four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong writing skills and research experience
  • A deep commitment to a 12-month, full-time fellowship
  • A demonstrated passion for climate and environmental reporting

Professional Development

During the fellowship, you will receive:

  • Personalized feedback and mentorship from seasoned journalists
  • Skill-building sessions on climate journalism and effective storytelling
  • Hands-on newsroom experience as part of Grist’s editorial team
