Applications are now open for outstanding students who wish to pursue a 4-year PhD studentship in Biomedical Sciences starting in September 2025.

Based in the Edinburgh Medical School: Biomedical Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, this prestigious program offers you the chance to:

Unique Opportunities

In addition to your PhD research, you will:

  • Develop TNE skills toward AFHEA accreditation.

  • Participate in short research and educational visits (2 visits totaling 4-6 weeks annually) to the ZJE Joint Institute in China with support from your PhD supervisory team.


Eligibility Criteria

To apply, candidates must:

  • Meet the University of Edinburgh’s PhD entry requirements, including English language proficiency.

  • Achieve a 2:1 degree classification (or equivalent) in a Biomedical-related undergraduate Honours degree program (conditional acceptance).

  • Discuss projects with prospective supervisors prior to submitting an application.

  • Your CV.

  • A 1-page personal statement explaining your motivation for pursuing a PhD and ranking up to 3 projects of interest (after discussing with supervisors).

  • A 1-page career aspirations statement outlining how TNE skill development aligns with your long-term goals.

Shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to meet with prospective PhD supervisors during the interview process.
