Data is the backbone of effective decision-making in today’s governance. To harness this potential, the World Bank has launched the Government Analytics Fellowship, an initiative designed to empower central government officials with the skills and insights to transform public administration through data analytics. Applications for the 2025 cohort are open until January 10, 2025.
About the Fellowship
Established in 2024, the Government Analytics Fellowship is a forward-thinking programme addressing the gap between underutilised government data and its potential to improve administrative efficiency. By integrating insights from the Government Analytics Handbook, participants gain cutting-edge knowledge and practical experience.
This initiative is a collaboration between the World Bank Development Economics Vice-Presidency (DEC), the Development Impact Group (DIME), the Governance Global Practice (GGP), and University College London.
Key Features of the Fellowship

Hybrid Learning Structure
- Two weeks of intensive in-person training in Washington, D.C.
- Six months of light virtual sessions (1 hour per week), ensuring continued learning and application.

Hands-On Analytics Projects
- Participants develop a government analytics project tailored to their organisation’s needs, supported by World Bank experts and academics.

Global Networking Opportunities
- Join a diverse community of data enthusiasts, including government officials, academics, and data experts, all working towards data-driven governance.

Fully Funded Support
- For applicants from ODA-eligible countries, the World Bank covers travel, accommodation, and subsistence, ensuring financial concerns don’t hinder participation.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
- Work in central government organisations (including agencies).
- Hold positions as mid-level managers or senior analysts with project development authority.
- Have completed tertiary-level coursework in statistics or quantitative methods.
- Be proficient in English.
- Be officially nominated by their organisation (up to two fellows per organisation).
Application Process
Submit the following documents in English:
- Comprehensive CV (maximum 3 pages): Highlight relevant qualifications and professional experience.
- 150-Word Project Summary: Explain how insights from the fellowship will benefit your organisation.
- Endorsement Letter: Confirming your role and nomination by your organisation.

Fellowship Timeline
- In-Person Training: March 17–27, 2025, Washington, D.C.
- Programme Duration: 6 months, blending in-person and virtual sessions.
