The Woodrow Wilson Center offers 9-month residential fellowships through an international competition. Fellows engage in in-depth research and writing in their areas of expertise while participating in dialogues with policymakers, other academics, and the Wilson Center staff. The program prioritizes non-advocacy, policy-relevant proposals addressing significant issues facing the U.S. and the world.


Fellowship Benefits

The Woodrow Wilson Center Fellowship offers a stipend of $90,000 for nine months. However, fellows are responsible for their own health insurance and travel expenses. The Center provides an intellectually stimulating environment and access to resources that enhance the research experience, enabling fellows to interact with decision-makers and other thought leaders.


Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this prestigious fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

General Requirements

  • Language: Proficiency in English is mandatory to facilitate idea exchange among fellows.
  • Eligible Countries: Open to applicants worldwide.

Academic Candidates

  • Hold a Ph.D. or J.D. (degree must be awarded by October 1, 2024).
  • Exhibit scholarly achievement through publications beyond their doctoral dissertation.

Professionals and Practitioners

  • Include individuals from diverse sectors such as academia, business, government, journalism, law, or other relevant fields.
  • Demonstrate exceptional professional achievements equivalent to scholarly expertise.

Other Requirements

  • Applicants from outside the U.S. must hold a valid passport and be eligible for a J-1 visa.
  • Fellows must commit to residency at the Wilson Center for the duration of their fellowship.
