The Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program is an exceptional opportunity for working journalists who aim to enhance their skills in political economy and business reporting. Launched in March 2017, this transformative 12-week program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business offers participants the chance to shape the future of business journalism.

Taking place at the renowned Hyde Park campus, the program provides journalists from across the globe with a chance to audit classes, attend exclusive events, and interact with leading scholars. With a focus on political economy, participants can select courses such as The Firm and the Non-Market Environment and Crony Capitalism, led by distinguished professors like Marianne Bertrand and Luigi Zingales.

Program participants are required to:

  • Attend and audit three courses.
  • Engage actively in class discussions, complete all necessary readings, and submit assignments on time.
  • Take part in Stigler lectures, social gatherings, and other events organized by the center.
  • Sign an agreement confirming mutual understanding of the program's guidelines and expectations.

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to working journalists with some media experience, proficient in English, from all over the world. Non-native English speakers may need to provide proof of language proficiency unless they have an English-language degree.


Application Process:

To apply, candidates must submit:

  • Resume/CV
  • Three published articles (or video/audio links for TV/radio journalists)
  • Personal essay (500 words)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)
