The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSMFP) is an initiative of the World Bank Group aimed at nurturing young researchers from developing countries. It provides them with a platform to advance their skills in research, particularly in areas related to international development, economics, and social sciences. Named after Robert S. McNamara, a former World Bank President, the program honors his legacy of global development and academic excellence.
The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSMFP) was established in 1982 through a resolution by the World Bank's Executive Directors. Its purpose is to support young researchers from developing nations in advancing their expertise in fields related to economic development. The program connects emerging researchers in development economics from developing countries with World Bank economists, fostering collaboration and allowing fellows to engage in policy-relevant research projects within the World Bank’s Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC). This partnership offers fellows the opportunity to work on cutting-edge studies that address critical global challenges.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be nationals of World Bank member countries classified as low or middle-income economies.
- They must hold a master’s degree in economics, social sciences, or a related field.
- Candidates should be early-career researchers with a demonstrated interest in developmental studies.
- Proficiency in English is often required for effective participation.
Application Process
- Submission of Proposal: Applicants are expected to present a detailed research proposal highlighting the relevance and impact of their study.
- Supporting Documents: Academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and proof of nationality are mandatory.
- Selection Criteria: Fellowships will be awarded based on application materials, knowledge of relevant economic methods, and demonstrated skills in required statistical software. Cohort formation will seek to achieve geographical and gender representation
