The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program was established in 2000 by Orascom Construction to invest in Egypt’s future through education. This initiative exemplifies how private sector contributions can drive sustainable development by nurturing young Egyptian talent.

The program provides opportunities for students to pursue undergraduate and master’s degrees at some of the most prestigious universities in the United States, offering a pathway to personal and professional growth.


Benefits

The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship covers full tuition, a living allowance, travel and health insurance.


Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Applicants:

  • Must be Egyptian nationals residing in Egypt.
  • GPA: 3.5 / 90% in Thanaweyya Amma or equivalent certificates.
  • SAT Requirements:
    • Old SAT: Overall 2100 (Reading, Math, Writing: 700 each).
    • New SAT: Overall 1450 (Reading & Writing: 730, Math: 730).
    • Alternatively, SAT II scores of 600+ in 3 subjects.
  • TOEFL iBT: 100 or above.
  • Demonstrated extracurricular involvement.
  • Commitment to return to Egypt for 2 years after completing the degree.

Master’s Applicants:

  • Egyptian nationals residing in Egypt (dual nationals are less preferred).
  • GPA: 3.5 / Very Good or above.
  • TOEFL iBT: 100 or above.
  • GMAT: 650+ (taken within 5 years).
  • GRE: Minimum scores:
    • Overall: 302.
    • Analytical Writing: 4.5.
  • At least 3 years of work experience.
  • Extracurricular involvement.
  • Commitment to return to Egypt for 2 years post-graduation.

Application Process

For Undergraduate Scholarships:

  1. Create an account on the Amideast website.
  2. Complete personal and educational details.
  3. Write two essays:
    • Essay 1 (500 words): How will attending your desired university help you succeed on personal, local, and national levels?
    • Essay 2 (350 words): What are you passionate about, and how have you pursued this passion?
  4. Attach these documents:
    • Application form.
    • Transcripts.
    • Resume.
    • Graduation or Thanaweyya Amma certificate (if available).
    • Test scores (SAT, TOEFL).
    • Two recommendation letters.
  5. Submit the application.

For Master’s Scholarships:

  1. Complete the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Graduate application.
  2. Provide:
    • Resume.
    • Graduation certificate.
    • Transcripts.
    • Test scores (TOEFL, GRE, or GMAT).
    • Two recommendation letters.
  3. Submit your application via the provided instructions.
