Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the University of Oxford Commonwealth Shared Scholarships must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a first degree with either first-class or upper second-class honours.
  • Be citizens of a developing Commonwealth country and not currently residing or studying in a developed nation.
  • Have not previously undertaken studies of one year or longer in a developed country.
  • Provide written confirmation that neither they nor their families can afford the cost of studying in the UK (this confirmation will only be required if nominated for the scholarship by Oxford).
  • Commit to returning to their home country immediately after completing their scholarship. (Exceptions for extending stay in the UK are limited to those progressing from Master’s to PhD studies under strict conditions).

Application Process and Important Dates

To apply for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship:

  1. Complete the online scholarship application form on the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission’s website by 4pm (GMT) on December 14, 2023.
  2. Submit your application for graduate study by the relevant deadline for your chosen course.

Only candidates who meet both criteria will be considered for the scholarship. Applicants must be applying for an approved Master's course at a participating UK university.
