The Emile Boutmy Scholarship is a prestigious award designed for outstanding international students wishing to pursue undergraduate or master's degree programs at Sciences Po, one of France's most renowned higher education institutions. Named after the founder of Sciences Po, Émile Boutmy, this scholarship aims to support talented students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to making a difference in their communities.
Benefits
The Emile Boutmy Scholarship offers the following benefits for undergraduate and master's students at Sciences Po:
Undergraduate Benefits:
- The scholarship is available to students starting their first year at Sciences Po.
- The scholarship can take different forms, including:
- A €7,300 annual tuition grant for the three years of the undergraduate program, along with an additional €5,000 per year to cover living expenses.
- A €7,300 annual tuition grant for three years.
- A €5,000 annual tuition grant for three years.
- A €3,000 annual tuition grant for three years.
- In exceptional cases, a €19,000 scholarship may be awarded to cover all three years of the undergraduate program. The final amount is determined by the admissions jury.
- If a student does not meet the academic requirements for the year, the scholarship will be revoked.
- If a student defers their admission, the scholarship will be forfeited.
- For the third year abroad, scholarship recipients will continue to receive their tuition grant and living allowance (if applicable).
Master’s Benefits:
- The scholarship is available to students entering their first year of the master’s program at Sciences Po.
- The scholarship can take two forms:
- A €10,000 annual grant for tuition fees for the two years of the master’s program.
- A €5,000 annual tuition grant for two years.
- The scholarship will be lost if the student fails to meet the academic requirements.
- If a student defers their admission, the scholarship will be forfeited.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Eligible Countries: Open to students from all countries worldwide.
Ineligible Candidates:
- Swiss and Norwegian applicants, as they may be eligible for CROUS scholarships.
- Candidates with dual citizenship, including EU citizenship.
- Quebec residents applying for a master's degree, as they qualify for the same sliding scale fees as European students. However, Quebec residents applying for a bachelor's degree are eligible.
- Students applying for master’s-level dual degree programs, except for:
- The dual degree in Journalism between Sciences Po and Columbia University.
- The dual degree between Sciences Po and Fudan University, focusing on Europe-Asia in Global Affairs (only open to Chinese nationals).
- The dual degree between Sciences Po and Peking University (only open to Chinese nationals).
- Ph.D. students (thesis track).
- Applicants for one-year Master's programs.
- Bachelor’s dual degree candidates (unless part of a specific agreement).
- Exchange students.
- Applicants using the French graduate admission procedure.
- Students applying for the joint scholarship with the CSC and the Emile Boutmy Simple Scholarship.
Additionally, the Emile Boutmy Scholarship cannot be combined with other scholarships such as the Eiffel Scholarship, AEFE Scholarship, or BGF, unless explicitly permitted by the jury.
Application Process
Students must indicate their intention to apply for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship in the "Financial Information" section of their Sciences Po application.
Applicants may be required to provide proof of income and documents related to their family situation, such as:
- Income tax returns for both parents
- Payslips
- Divorce certificates
- Documents showing unemployment benefits, alimony, child support, or retirement pensions
- Death certificates
Additionally, applicants must submit their language test results (if applicable) before the scholarship application deadline.
The Admissions Department is responsible for awarding the Emile Boutmy scholarships. Please note that your scholarship application will only be considered if you are admitted to one of the eligible programs.
