The Eamon Molloy Memorial Scholarships are special awards offered to honor the legacy of Eamon Molloy, a respected leader in international education and an advocate for student exchange programs. These scholarships are dedicated to providing students with unique opportunities to pursue higher education, supporting their growth, and enabling them to make a positive impact in their communities.


Benefits

Eamon Molloy Memorial Scholarships will provide:

  • The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of $10,000.
  • The scholarship is paid to the recipient’s University fees account.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Undergraduate Asian students at the University of Canterbury
    •  Applicants must be either (1) citizens of Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, or Vietnam, or (2) holders of Hong Kong permanent identity cards. Applicants must not also be citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand or holders of Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visas.
  • Selection will be based on:
    • academic achievement;
    • financial need; and
    • leadership and personal qualities indicating the applicant’s potential to be a success in life, as demonstrated in a personal statement describing his or her attributes, achievements and ambitions.
  • Recipients must be full-fee-paying international students enrolled full-time at the University in their second, third, or fourth year of a programme for an undergraduate degree.
  • The scholarship is tenable for one year.
  • The scholarship is co-tenable with any other award unless the conditions of the other award preclude this.
  • In the event where a recipient’s enrolment in the year of tenure no longer meets the conditions
  • specified above, the scholarship is withdrawn and any paid funds may be recovered.
  • Continuation of a scholarship is conditional on satisfactory academic progress and adherence to the University’s statutes and regulations.

Application Process

  1. Applications must be made online by 31 March.
  2. Applications are accepted from previous recipients of the scholarship, and are given equal consideration with applications from those who have not held the scholarship before.

Important Dates

  • Deadline: 11:59 pm (NZT) 31 March 2025 (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)
