The Swedish Institute (SI) Pioneering Women in STEM Scholarship for 2025 is a transformative program designed to empower women from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This prestigious, fully funded scholarship offers outstanding female students from eligible countries the opportunity to pursue a master's degree in Sweden, one of the world’s most innovative and gender-equal nations. Here’s everything you need to know about this incredible opportunity to advance your studies and career in STEM.

Through the scholarship, the Swedish Institute (SI) aim to create a more diverse and equal STEM-field as well as develop a network of future global leaders that will contribute to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and drive the development of their home countries forward.  


Benefits

The SI scholarship Pioneering women in STEM is a competitive fully-funded scholarship that includes:

  • Full tuition fee coverage. The fee is paid directly by SI to your Swedish university in the beginning of each semester.
  • A monthly stipend of SEK 12,000 to cover your living expenses throughout the study period.
  • A travel grant of SEK 15,000. This is a one-time payment and does not apply for students already living in Sweden.
  • Membership in the SI Network for Future Global Professionals (NFGP) – a platform to help you grow professionally and build a network while in Sweden.
  • After your scholarship period has ended, you become a member of the SI Alumni Network. As a member, you get a unique opportunity for continued networking and professional development.

The scholarship does not…

  • Include an insurance. We recommend checking with your university to learn more about what insurance coverage they provide for international students.
  • Provide additional grants for family members.
  • Cover the application fee to University Admissions.
  • Allow changes to the study programme. We are only able to support you through the awarded master’s programme.
  • Allow extensions or changes to the awarded scholarship period.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Gender Requirement: Applicants must identify as women.
  • Nationality: Must be a citizen of an eligible country (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam).
  • Academic Requirement: Should have a strong academic background and an undergraduate degree in a STEM-related field.
  • If you have already been awarded an SI Scholarship or a university degree in Sweden, you are not eligable to apply for this scholarship. 

Application Process and Important Dates

Step:1 - Select a master´s programme: Date:15 Oct 2024 – 15 Jan 2025

Step:2 - Apply through University Admissions: Date:15 Oct 2024 – 15 Jan 2025

Step:3 - Let SI know you have applied: Date:1 Nov 2024 – 15 Jan 2025

Step:4  - Recieve notifications from University Admissions and SI: Date:27 Mar 2025 – 24 Apr 2025
