Are you in search of a prestigious international research opportunity? The UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Young Scientists Awards 2025 is currently open for applications! This global initiative, launched by UNESCO—the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization—was established in 1989 to support young researchers, especially those from developing countries, who are working on innovative, interdisciplinary projects aligned with UNESCO’s mission. The awards focus on research related to ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural resource management, particularly within biosphere reserves.
The program provides financial support to early-career scientists, encouraging them to incorporate MAB-related research and biosphere reserve studies into their work. With a grant of up to $5,000, awardees will be able to advance their research and contribute meaningful solutions to ecological and sustainability challenges. If you're an emerging scientist passionate about the environment, this is a fantastic opportunity you shouldn't miss.
The MAB Young Scientists Awards offer a range of valuable benefits:
Up to $5,000 in research funding
Encouragement to pursue studies that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Lima Action Plan (LAP)
Focus on knowledge-sharing and collaboration among global researchers
Opportunities to work in biosphere reserves, rich with natural and cultural diversity
This initiative also complements UNESCO’s broader commitment to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, promoting solutions for key ocean-related challenges.
The awards aim to:
Promote a better understanding of the role of scientific research in sustainable development
Support the next generation of scientists committed to solving pressing environmental issues
Strengthen global collaboration through shared experiences and research insights
