Nature Cultural Fellowship Program 2025: A Journey of Reconnection Through Art, Ancestral Knowledge & Community Healing

The Nature Cultural Fellowship (NCF) is more than just a training program — it's a transformative journey that seeks to reimagine our relationship with nature, culture, and community. Developed in collaboration with the Global Youth Biodiversity Network, this fellowship is designed to cultivate collective healing, creativity, and action for ecological and cultural regeneration.

What is the Nature Cultural Fellowship?

Spanning May to November 2025, the Nature Cultural Fellowship offers an immersive experience for individuals across the globe who are passionate about restoring balance between humans and the natural world. The program invites 55 participants from over 30 countries to embark on a three-month virtual learning journey (May–July 2025). This initial phase involves deep exploration through:

  • Storytelling and embodiment practices

  • Values-based reflection and dialogue

  • Cultural and systemic analysis of ecological crises

The goal is to address the root causes of our environmental challenges — from disconnection with nature to broken cultural systems — and begin a process of healing and reconnection.

Fellowship Project Implementation: August to November 2025

After the initial phase, 40 Fellows will be selected to receive financial support to launch their own community-based initiatives. These projects must interweave elements of:

  • Art and creativity

  • Ancestral and indigenous knowledge

  • Intergenerational exchange

  • Bold, imaginative thinking

These locally rooted projects will serve as living examples of ecological and cultural renewal, offering hope, beauty, and new models of collective care.

What Makes This Fellowship Unique?

The Nature Cultural Fellowship is deeply rooted in relational values, fostering a co-creative environment where learning is shaped by participants' lived experiences. It encourages Fellows to ask bold questions about:

  • Identity and belonging

  • Place, memory, and land

  • Grief and transformation

  • Mutual care across generations and species

This is not just an academic or technical program — it’s a space for emotional, spiritual, and cultural exploration that honors the sacred connections between people and the planet.

A Transformative 3-Phase Journey: Cultivating Regenerative Futures Together

The Intergenerational Cultural Fellowship is structured as a rich, three-phase experience that guides participants from deep personal exploration to meaningful, community-centered action.

Phase 1: Tending the Soil (May–June 2025)

The journey begins with inward reflection and grounding in personal and cultural narratives. Fellows explore the roots of systemic oppression and renew their connection to living systems. Through storytelling, grief work, ritual, and collective reflection, participants examine relationships — both human and more-than-human — and identify what must be released to create space for growth.

Phase 2: A World of Possibilities (June–July 2025)

In this creative phase, Fellows step into a generative space of imagination. They engage in deep, reciprocal listening, co-working sessions, and peer feedback to begin shaping project ideas. This is a time to spark innovation and co-create potential futures inspired by community insight and ecological awareness.

Phase 3: Seeding Regenerative Futures (August–December 2025)

Fellows begin implementing their community-rooted initiatives, supported by mentorship, monthly check-ins, and reflective practices. This is where vision turns into action. The program culminates in a collective Celebration, where Fellows showcase their work, share stories, and express visions for regenerative cultural change.

Time Commitment

  • Learning Phase: 3 months of immersive, interactive sessions

  • Implementation Phase: 4 months of project activation within your community

Applicants can choose to apply for either or both parts of the program.

What You’ll Explore: Benefits

Embracing Uncertainty:
Ideal for those open to curiosity, unlearning, and experimentation, the fellowship encourages stepping beyond comfort zones and exploring new ways of thinking and being.

Traditional Wisdom & Social Science:
It centers Indigenous knowledge, social sciences, and artistic expression—not Western scientific models—as key tools for insight and action.

Time Commitment:
A 3-month learning phase followed by 4 months of project implementation. Applications are open for both stages.
