Carnegie Young Leaders for Civic Preparedness 2025–2026 | Empowering Youth to Lead Community Change

Are you a young changemaker eager to make a difference? The Carnegie Young Leaders for Civic Preparedness program is your opportunity to take meaningful action and help shape a more united, resilient America. In a time of increasing division and complex societal challenges, this initiative empowers youth aged 14 to 24 to take the lead in their communities through impactful civic projects.

Be the Change: Lead with Purpose

The program is built on a simple yet powerful idea—real change starts locally. If you believe in the power of dialogue, community engagement, and collaborative action, then this is your moment. In 2025, a total of 500 young leaders from across the United States will be selected and organized into 100 dynamic teams. Each team will design and execute a community-centered project, promoting civic engagement and positive change.

Participants will develop key civic skills—like navigating tough conversations, working across differences, and leading with empathy—to become catalysts for a stronger, more inclusive society.

A National Movement Backed by Philanthropy

Thanks to a $2.05 million grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, this nationwide initiative builds upon a successful pilot program and aims to significantly grow the number of empowered young leaders across the country.

Program Highlights:

  • Team Formation: Each group will consist of 5 members—one Team Lead and four Fellows.

  • Project Goal: Each project should engage at least 75 individuals in person or 300 virtually.

  • Focus Areas: Civic proposals may explore themes such as education, environment, economic opportunity, health and wellness, criminal justice, immigration, voter engagement, and more.
