The Embassy of France in Ghana is proud to offer the French Government Scholarship Programme, also known as "France Excellence". This program, which includes the Séjours Scientifiques de Haut Niveau (SSHN) or High-Level Scientific Stays, is designed for academic and research staff interested in spending time at a higher education or research institution in France. The SSHN aims to foster cooperation between institutions in France and those around the world, providing a unique opportunity for researchers and academics to collaborate and advance their projects.


What Does the Scholarship Include?

The "France Excellence" scholarship covers:

  • Round-trip airfare to and from France

  • Monthly allowance to cover living expenses

  • Health and repatriation insurance

  • Accommodation through Campus France Paris (the rent will be deducted from the scholarship grant)


Who Can Apply?

The scholarship is open to:

  • PhD students and holders of a PhD degree

  • Candidates from public or private higher education institutions or scientific research laboratories

  • Binational candidates holding the nationality of a European Union country are not eligible.

Additionally, applicants are categorized as:

  • "Young Researchers": PhD holders who have obtained their doctorate within the last 5 years

  • "Confirmed Researchers": PhD holders with more than 5 years of experience


Duration and Dates of Mobility

  • The mobility period can last from 1 to 2 months.

  • For 2025, eligible mobility will take place between 1st September and 15th December.

  • The hosting institution in France must be able to accommodate the grantee within this period.


Application Process

Applications are assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Project precision: The clarity and potential impact of the project on the personal, institutional, and cooperation levels

  • Host organization letter of invitation: Must include details about the activities to be carried out (e.g., seminars, conferences, research articles)

  • Cover letter: Should explain the reasons for choosing the host organization, past achievements, and alignment with the mobility project

  • Work plan: Must be detailed and show a well-prepared project

  • Co-financing proposals: Will be favorably evaluated

Once selected, applicants will be informed by email about the procedure for travel arrangements and visa applications. Campus France Paris will assist with organizing the practical aspects of the mobility.

Important note: Any mobility confirmed after 15 June 2025 will be automatically canceled, and the scholarship will be transferred to another candidate on the waiting list. The scholarship cannot be transferred to the following year.


Key Dates

  • 4 March 2025: Call for applications opens

  • 26 April 2025: Deadline for submitting applications

  • 30 May 2025: Results announced to successful applicants

  • 1 September - 15 December 2025: Mobility period in France
