To qualify for the MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship 2026, applicants must:
Hold citizenship in a country with diplomatic ties to Japan
Be born on or after April 2, 2001
Have completed or be expected to complete 12 years of schooling by March or August 2026
Be willing to learn Japanese and undertake studies in the Japanese language
Be physically and mentally fit to study abroad
Be available to arrive in Japan between April 1–7, 2026 (or Fall 2026 if placed directly into a program)
